Guns and Zambies

'Tis time for me to dig up some really old characters and give them the revamps they deserve.

The last time I really drew these two was just about the same time that I first sketched them about eight years ago. 'Bout time I did something with these weird noodles and give them better/actual purposes in their lives. So, from left to right:

Digby is just a regular firearms tech and spends a majority of his time performing maintenance and modification on various guns and weapons of mass destruction. He's super chill and takes life as it comes, and he usually has a toothpick in his mouth but sneaks in the occasional smoke smuggled in from some other planet. Kiki tends to pop in and talk to him a lot, too.

Gidjit is Kiki’s batchmate (they were born in the same time frame) and attended Elite training along with her. They’re still buddies even though they don’t get to hang out a lot. She’s extremely happy-go-lucky and is also completely obsessed with dead things. She still qualifies as a lesser technician but she’s made great leaps and bounds in the medical field’s long-forgotten and previously forbidden corner of technological necromancy.

She has since created a device, Necro-Tech, that can resuscitate the formerly deceased and get them back in mostly working order. Freshly dead patient’s brains affected by her technology regain around 80+% of their previous sentience on average on the spot and get a little better with time and have the longest productive lifespan. Old dead patients will stand up and do what they’re told or they’ll just wander around doing whatever–the deader they are, the dumber and more useless they are. Previous prototypes didn’t do anything to slow the onset of rot and would eventually become unresponsive as the host went back to being genuinely dead if the brain putrefied too much but now the current tech incarnates do a better job with preserving bodies. Necro-tech zombies don’t have much of a pulse at all in most cases and breathe the most audibly when they want to speak, though lung inflation is somewhat slow and unreliable which causes typical out-of-breath zombie droning and weird speech patterns. There’s still more for Gidjit to iron out and really mimic actual life with her game-changing technology.

Wes is Gidjit’s reanimated mentor/coworker slave with about two weeks of undeath under his belt and is still going strong. He was observant, intelligent, and liked to reward the diligence and hard work of his students and peers. He was a generally amicable guy but then he died one day from a heart attack in the middle of a lecture and Gidjit figured she wasn’t quite done with taking notes. So she finished upgrading her newest Necro-Tech, screwed it into his head, and viola! He was now back in the waking world, save for a few obvious drawbacks which made him look like more of a drooling monkey than a re-energized, previously dead Vortian. At least his lectures are still understandable.
